Surface-mounted housings for 24V LED spot modules

A surface-mounted housing is the visible ceiling fitting that holds a TILLUME 24V LED spot module when a recessed ceiling cut-out is not possible or not preferred. It is also called a surface-mounted ceiling fitting, surface-mounted spot housing or surface-mounted spotlight housing.

Choose the housing for the visible ceiling form, fixing method, holder type, light direction and, on selected models, IP44 splash protection. Choose the 24V LED spot module for light output, colour temperature, CRI and dimming function. This is practical for renovations, concrete ceilings, shallow ceiling voids, bathrooms with suitable IP44 fittings and 24V LED spot systems controlled by DALI, KNX, Loxone or PWM.

Installation structure

Separate aluminium cover for easier surface mounting

TILLUME surface-mounted housings separate the aluminium cover from the visible aluminium housing. The cover is fixed to the ceiling first; the visible housing is attached afterwards. This makes alignment and fastening easier, especially when working overhead.

  • Fix the aluminium cover to the ceiling first.
  • Attach the visible aluminium housing afterwards.
  • The spot holder carries the LED spot module and can be adjustable or fixed, depending on the product type.
  • This cover-and-housing structure is used across TILLUME surface-mounted fittings.

Why this helps: the aluminium cover can be fixed first. The visible housing is attached afterwards, so the installer does not need to hold the deeper lamp body in place while aligning the screw holes.

Three surface-mounted housing types for different lighting needs

Start with the lighting result you need: adjustable direction, fixed downlight-style mounting with IP44 options, or anti-glare comfort. Then choose the housing type that fits that result.

1. Adjustable direction

For a visible ceiling light where the beam should be aimed at a wall, corridor, furniture surface or accent area. Round and square designs are available.

2. Fixed downlight style with IP44 option

For a cleaner ceiling look when the light direction is already planned. TILLUME fixed surface-mounted fittings are available as IP44 solutions for bathrooms or indoor spaces where splash protection is required.

3. Anti-glare comfort

For lower visual glare and a calmer ceiling light, with white or black fittings, a 20° shielding angle and a 20mm recessed light source position.

Adjustable spot holder

Pivoted round and square housings in white or black for adjustable light direction

Use a pivoted surface-mounted fitting when the beam needs to point toward a wall, corridor, worktop, artwork or seating area. The swiveling spot holder carries the LED spot module and lets you adjust the beam direction after installation.

  • Round and square designs are available.
  • White and black finishes can blend into the ceiling or create a stronger contrast.
  • The pivoted holder adjusts up to 20°.
  • The visible housing height is 90mm.
  • Useful when the ceiling should stay closed, for example in renovation projects or concrete ceilings.
  • Good when the light point is fixed but the beam still needs to aim toward a wall, furniture surface, corridor or accent area.

Fixed spot holder

Fixed IP44 surface-mounted fittings for bathrooms and splash-prone indoor spaces

Choose a fixed spot holder when the beam direction is already planned and you want a clean downlight-style result. This type is available as IP44 for bathrooms, washrooms and similar indoor areas.

Anti-glare housing

Anti-glare surface-mounted housings in black or white with IP44 options

Choose an anti-glare housing when the spot should look calmer from normal viewing angles. The LED spot module sits deeper inside the housing, so direct brightness from the ceiling is reduced. IP44 versions are available for bathrooms and splash-prone indoor areas.

Match the surface-mounted housing with a 24V LED spot module

The surface-mounted housing is not the light source. It holds the 24V LED spot module and defines the visible ceiling form. The LED module defines light output, colour temperature, CRI and dimming.

This lets you choose the visible housing for the room first, then select the LED module for wattage, colour temperature, CRI, dimming type or Tunable White / RGBW function.

Smart-home note: KNX, DALI and Loxone belong to the control layer. The surface-mounted housing holds the LED spot module; dimming and colour control come from the matching 24V PWM controller or actuator.

    Is a surface-mounted housing a complete LED spotlight?

    No. The surface-mounted housing is the mechanical part. It becomes a complete surface-mounted LED spotlight only when paired with a compatible TILLUME 24V LED spot module.

    Which surface-mounted housing type should I choose?

    Choose an adjustable spot holder if you need beam direction control, a fixed spot holder if the light direction is already planned, or an anti-glare housing if visual comfort is the priority.

    When is a surface-mounted housing better than a recessed frame?

    It is often better when the ceiling cannot be cut, the ceiling void is too shallow, the project is a renovation, or the visible housing should become part of the room design.

    What should be checked before ordering?

    Check ceiling material, fixing method, cable entry, housing size, visible height, spot holder type, IP rating, glare requirement and whether the selected LED module fits the housing. If the fitting is used in a bathroom or splash-prone indoor area, choose a suitable IP44 surface-mounted option and check the local installation zone rules.

    Does the housing make the light KNX, DALI or Loxone compatible?

    No. The housing only holds the LED spot module. KNX, DALI and Loxone compatibility depends on the LED module, 24V PWM controller or actuator, power supply and system configuration.

    Can the LED module be replaced later?

    Yes. In the TILLUME modular setup, the LED spot module is separate from the housing. Suitable fittings allow front-side access for later replacement or upgrades.
