How to choose recessed ceiling fittings for 24V LED spot modules

After choosing recessed 24V LED spot modules, the fitting choice mainly depends on ceiling depth and room use. Standard frames work for many ceilings. Visible spot positions may need a deeper low-glare housing, shallow voids need a low-height fitting, and bathroom areas need a suitable IP44 version.

Standard recessed frames for discreet ceiling integration

Standard recessed frames suit plasterboard ceilings, suspended ceilings and minimal interiors where the spot should stay visually quiet. This round frame uses a 68 mm ceiling cut-out and allows front-side installation and maintenance of the LED spot module.

  • 68 mm cut-out size for the round recessed frame.
  • With TILLUME LED spot modules, plan around 65 mm installation space above the ceiling.
  • The LED spot module can be installed, replaced or maintained from the front without removing the frame from the ceiling.

Low-glare recessed housings with a deeper light position

Low-glare recessed housings fit corridors, living rooms, dining areas and seating zones where the spot is visible from a low angle. This version uses an 89 mm ceiling cut-out, needs around 85 mm installation space above the ceiling and has a 16° shielding angle.

  • 89 mm cut-out size for the round low-glare recessed housing.
  • Plan around 85 mm installation space above the ceiling.
  • 16° shielding angle helps reduce direct view into the LED module.
  • Front-side installation and maintenance: remove the LED holder to access the light source without removing the housing from the ceiling.

Low-height recessed fittings are made for ceilings with very little void space. This version needs only 30 mm installation space and uses a 68 mm ceiling cut-out.

IP-rated recessed housings for bathroom and damp-room planning

IP-rated recessed versions are for bathroom, guest WC or damp-room positions where moisture protection matters. The IP-rated design keeps moisture protection in mind while still allowing front-side LED module installation and maintenance.

  • For bathroom or damp-room positions that require a matching IP rating.
  • Front-side LED module installation and maintenance, without removing the complete housing from the ceiling.
  • Check IP rating, installation zone, ceiling construction and ventilation.
  • Wet-room electrical work should follow local electrical rules and qualified planning.

Match the recessed housing with a 24V LED spot module

The recessed frame is not the light source. In the TILLUME modular setup, the 24V LED spot module sits in an MR16-style holder and then goes into the matching frame or housing. The visible fitting and the light engine stay separate.

Smart-home note: The fitting defines the mechanical installation and ceiling appearance. System compatibility with DALI, KNX or Loxone depends on the selected 24V LED spot module, 24V PWM controller or actuator, and 24V DC power supply.

Looking at other ceiling mounting styles?

If the ceiling does not have enough space for a recessed fitting, use a surface-mounted ceiling fitting instead. It is usually cleaner than forcing a recessed installation into a shallow ceiling. You can still compare recessed, surface-mounted and pendant options before choosing the final fitting.

For recessed 24V lighting, plan the housing, LED spot module, controller and power supply together. This matters most for dimming, Tunable White, RGBW/RGBWW and wired smart-home systems.

    Is a recessed housing a complete LED spotlight?

    No. The recessed housing or mounting frame is the mechanical part. It becomes a complete recessed LED spotlight only when paired with a compatible TILLUME 24V LED spot module.

    Cut-out size, installation depth, ceiling material, heat space, holder compatibility and whether the selected LED module fits the frame.
