How to choose Tunable White 24V LED spots

Choose these Tunable White 24V LED spot modules when a room needs controlled warm-to-cool white light. TILLUME offers 4+4W, 6+6W and 8+8W versions, with 2400-4000K and 2200-6500K ranges for different scene types.

In DALI DT8, KNX, Loxone or similar systems, the controller handles CCT and dimming logic. The spot still needs the right two-channel 24V PWM output for clean WW/CW control.

01 White range

Choose the right white range

Use 2400-4000K for Dim to Warm scenes where a pinkish middle-CCT impression should be avoided. Use 2200-6500K for HCL scenes, sunrise-to-sunset schedules and wider custom CCT control.

02 Light quality

Check light quality values

For faces, wooden furniture, dining tables, kitchen areas, red fabrics and artwork, compare Ra/CRI, R9 and spectrum data. Expert and Master are light-quality and construction options, not separate collection categories.

03 WW/CW channels

Plan warm-white and cool-white channels

Each Tunable White module has one warm-white and one cool-white channel, such as 4+4W, 6+6W or 8+8W. Plan the final 24V PWM output around channel power, WW/CW mapping, DALI DT8, KNX or Loxone logic, and a 24V DC power supply with suitable reserve.

Special 4+4W option

4+4W Tunable White spot for selected KNX and DALI actuator setups

The 4+4W Tunable White module fits compact two-channel actuator setups, especially KNX systems with MDT AKD-0424R series actuators. It also suits earlier DALI projects that used dual-channel DT6 actuators, such as Lunatone solutions, before DT8 control became common.

With MDT AKD-0424R max power output mode, the 2200K end uses the warm-white channel at about 4W. As CCT increases, the cool-white channel opens gradually. When both channels are fully open, the module reaches about 8W at around 3500K. As the CCT moves further toward 6500K, the warm-white channel is reduced until only the cool-white channel remains at about 4W.

To get the full 8W behavior, check the actuator software first. The actuator must support maximum brightness output for Tunable White. If it only works with wattage balance, sometimes called constant brightness, the spot may not reach the full 8W output.

Planning note: MDT AKD-0424R.02 supports maximum brightness output. For other actuators, check the WW/CW channel logic and maximum-output behavior before choosing the final setup.

How max power output works with a 4+4W Tunable White module

In max power output mode, both WW and CW channels can be fully open around the middle CCT range, allowing the 4+4W module to reach about 8W total output.

CCT range is only one part of the choice. Compare Expert and Master by voltage tolerance, protection design, heat dissipation, spectrum, CRI and R9 before selecting the module level.

What makes TILLUME different in a 24V Tunable White setup

TILLUME Tunable White spot modules are designed for 24V lighting zones where the module, two-channel PWM output, 24V DC power supply, housing and cable route are planned together. This makes the light result easier to predict before installation.

In DALI DT8, KNX and Loxone projects, the controller provides scene logic. The brightness curve and CCT transition depend on the LED module, two-channel PWM output and 24V system design working together.

LOW DIM

Low-brightness dimming support

TILLUME spot modules can reach very low dimming levels without making the scene feel abrupt. As a planning reference, minimum brightness is about 1% at 4 kHz and about 0.3% at 1 kHz, depending on the controller and system configuration. The modules support PWM up to 6 kHz; most projects should stay below 4 kHz.

VOLTAGE-DROP FRIENDLY

More tolerant of 24V voltage drop

Voltage drop is common in 24V constant-voltage lighting systems, especially on longer cable runs. TILLUME spot modules are more voltage-drop-friendly because Expert items can work down to 21.5V input and Master items down to 23V input, giving more usable tolerance on site.

Decide whether the zone needs warm evening light, neutral everyday light, cool working light, or a defined circadian-style scene schedule.

Select 2200-6500K for HCL schedules and strong warm-to-cool contrast, or 2400-4000K for Dim to Warm scenes and users who are sensitive to middle-CCT deviation from the Planckian locus.

Choose power by illuminance need

Use the required brightness level and room function to choose 4+4W, 6+6W or 8+8W. Select the power level by maximum light output first, then use dimming for comfort and atmosphere.

Use Expert for general rooms where Ra >90 is sufficient. Review Master when faces, wood, food, artwork, red fabrics or premium interior materials need stronger color rendering.

For DALI DT8, KNX or Loxone, confirm that the last actuator or controller provides two 24V PWM channels for WW and CW. Check channel load, WW/CW mapping, max-output behavior, PWM frequency, dimming floor and a 24V DC power supply with about 20% reserve.

QCan these Tunable White LED spots be connected directly to DALI, KNX or Loxone?

No, not directly. These spot modules are designed for high-quality 24V constant-voltage lighting zones in KNX, DALI or Loxone systems. The final two-channel 24V PWM output is what turns the system logic into clean WW/CW control, dimming behavior and CCT transition at the spot.

QShould I choose 2200-6500K or 2400-4000K?

Choose 2200-6500K when the project needs a wide Tunable White range for HCL scenes, sunrise-to-sunset schedules, daylight-style control or strong visual change between warm and cool white. Choose 2400-4000K when the project focuses on Dim to Warm behavior, private residential interiors and avoiding a pinkish impression in the middle CCT range. They are different application ranges, not a simple better-or-worse choice.

QWhat does DALI DT8 mean for Tunable White spots?

DALI DT8 can control brightness and color temperature together. For 24V Tunable White spots, the controller must translate the DT8 logic into suitable 24V PWM outputs for the warm-white and cool-white LED channels.

QIs Tunable White the same as Dim to Warm?

No. Tunable White lets the system actively choose a color temperature within a defined range. Dim to Warm usually changes the color temperature automatically while dimming. For planning and controller setup, the two concepts should be treated separately.

QWhat is the difference between Expert and Master Class?

Compare R9, Ra/CRI, spectrum, COB design, optical structure and heat dissipation. Expert can be enough for general rooms. For kitchens, dining areas, premium interiors, studios or display areas, review the Master data more carefully.

QWhich other components do I need?

A typical setup needs suitable spot housings or frames, a stable 24V DC power supply with reserve, a compatible two-channel 24V PWM controller or actuator, and a check of cable length, voltage drop, installation space and power reserve.

QIs Expert always better than Master for voltage drop?

Not always. Expert has a lower minimum input voltage limit of 21.5V, while Master is limited to 23V, so Expert can look more voltage-drop-friendly on paper. In projects with an adjustable 24V DC power supply, the output can often be set around 24.5V, making the practical voltage-drop tolerance similar in many installations. Although both series can reach up to 25V, we recommend keeping the spot-side voltage no higher than about 24.5V for long-term lifetime.
